With a plethora of career options available nowadays, making the right career choice isnt easy. Another disadvantage is the fact that we still arent fully aware of all the options available to us. To get insight into courses available and become familiar with the best universities that offer them, a university tour was conducted on 8th April 2016 for the students of classes XI and XII by representatives of some well rated universities in India and abroad. These included the University of Ottawa, University of Victoria, St. Georges University (Grenada), Essec Business School (France), Ashoka University (India), Leeds Beckett University ( UK), Kent State University (USA) and the Laureate Design University (USA). For students pursuing medicine, St. Georges University in Grenada offers a 5 year programme. This university predominantly caters to students interested in the medical sciences. Not only this, there are universities offering a notable platform to students aspiring to become artists and designers. One important example is the Laureate Design University, USA. This university offers courses in interior and fashion designing. The representative guided students on how to prepare portfolios to help them seek admission to these universities. The Kent State University also gave some valuable information. This university provides a 4 years' bachelors degree. Some of the subjects offered are computer science, chemistry and biology. Relevant information on the criteria required for admission such as a students percentage in the XII standard exam, proficiency in English and most importantly the SAT scores were emphasised upon by the representative. Later, the students were free to seek information from representatives of the other universities too. All the students were appreciative of the efforts taken to introduce them to such options . They were encouraged to ask questions and these were patiently addressed by the representatives. The event was a success, as it allowed students to get acquainted with a number of university options all at once. Shivali Anand (XII-C).
