The curator of the museum, Mr. N. Khanna interacted with the students after we entered the venue. He warmly shared many aspects about Delhi Metro with the students. According to him, the Museum traces the origin of the Delhi Metro which took 32 years to reach an operational stage from the drawing boards! Delhi Metro came into being on 25th December 2002. It is the worlds 12th largest metro system in terms of both length and number of stations. Delhi Metro is a metro system serving Delhi and its satellite cities Faridabad, Gurgaon, Noida and Ghaziabad. We were told that there are 216 trains with 4/6/8 coaches covering 213 km, serving 160 stations including six on the Airport Express Line. The network comprises of the six colour-coded lines and one airport express line operational across Delhi and the NCR. Daily ridership on the Metro comprises of an average 2.661 million commuters.

The Museum is truly remarkable and all major milestones and issues in regard to the selection of its technology are displayed. The Metros unique management style, earthquake proof structures and the distinction of being the first railway project to claim carbon credits have also been given prominence here.

The one and a half hours spent at the museum gave our students an excellent insight of the journey of the Delhi Metro since inception. The learning gained through the visit was indeed, invaluable.

Ms. Purnima Dwivedi.
