Workshop on Design as a career option

You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.

-Walt Disney

Design is a journey of discovery. It can serve as a key to solve many problems. It turns imagination to reality. It enables us to mould our thoughts into something substantial.

To facilitate the students of Fashion Studies, an interactive session was organised on 31st October 17 at 11:30 am in the AV Room at School. It was organised in association with the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) to help us students, get a better perspective of design as a career option.

India is the second largest manufacturer of footwear at an output of 6,000 crore footwear annually informed Mr. Rohit Bhatnagar, senior faculty who then gave us an introduction of FDDI and retail management.

The session began with a question by the resource person, where we were asked to name a few popular Indian brands popular of footwear. As we could not easy recall more than two (Bata and Liberty), he drew us to imagine the struggle it is to make a name, as it were. Like any other vocation, perseverance is not negotiable if one is looking for success. We have to spend time developing our skills.

Mr. Bhatnagar also said that it is not easy to get an affiliation from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for a new venture. He handed us pamphlets which contained detailed information about FDDI and its admission procedure.

The session was taken forward by Ms. Meenaxi Popli, design guru, who shared information about the different fields of design and the institutes which offer these courses. She provided us with detailed information about the admission procedures of various design institutes including NIFT, NID, NDDI and IIT. She also informed us about the design course offered by IIT in Product and Digital Design. She gave us pamphlets of Trendz Academy and patiently answered the queries of the students at the end of the session.

The session was very informative and we were motivated to move ahead and grab the opportunities in this field. After all designing is all about what, when, where and how you express yourself!
