The workshop touched upon areas such as common brain and mind disorders, differential diagnosis and early intervention as well as neuropsychological rehabilitation and treatment. The speakers Ms. Akriti Malik and Dr. Ruchika Das, clinical psychologists, Moolchand Medicity focused on the linkages between the brain, body and behaviour. They spoke extensively on neuropsychological rehabilitation which enables people with disabilities to achieve their optimum level of well-being, reduce the impact of their problems in everyday life and help them return to a normal existence. Later, a session on Dementia, a general term for memory loss, was conducted by Dr. Ruchika Das. The topic covered the wide range of causes and symptoms associated with a decline in memory. The roles of care-givers, family members and others associated with patients were discussed in detail. The session stressed the need to educate family members about the patients illness/ brain damage. It was a beneficial experience as we became familiar with rehabilitation practices that support people with these disorders. It also sensitised us to the need to be supportive. This is important as optimal care and emotional support has a large impact on the prognosis of a patient. Ms. Ritu Mehndiratta.
