Workshop on School Safety

'School Safety' has been defined as the protection of students from all kinds of abuse, violence, psycho-social issues, natural and manmade disasters. It includes necessary counselling help and special needs' interventions.

Of late, we have seen a growing need to focus on the proactive role of counsellors and counselling services at both preventive and interventional levels. Expressions' India and AISCAP ( Association of Indian School Counsellor and Allied Professionals) facilitated a country wide programme of helping schools Promote Child Safety, Protection and Positive Mental Health.

A consensus building workshop was organised on 24th October 2017 from 2 to 4 pm in the auditorium of Moolchand Medicity. This was attended by school counsellors, special educators and teacher- counsellors of various schools of Delhi. The session was addressed by Dr. Jitender Nagpal and others. An open house discussion enabled a discussion on the need for the CBSE to define effective guidelines to identify the role of school counsellors. Participants shared their inputs-of which, a few were a streamlining of the role of the counsellor the development of counselling and special needs' cells, technical and digital support for maintaining case records etc.

It was a good workshop where there were many like minded persons ready to discuss and address the numerous issues at hand.
