World Environment Day activities

World Environment Day 2022 is the biggest annual international commemoration of the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), and held annually since 1973, it has grown to be the largest global platform for environmental outreach. It is observed by millions of people across the world. Only One Earth" is the campaign slogan, with the focus on Living Sustainably in Harmony with Nature.

On this special occasion, the students of The Indian school attended the Harit Utsav at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, organised by the Directorate of Education at the KD Jadhav Hall. Delhi Environment Minister, Gopal Rai inaugurated the event.

Around 2,500 children from different schools of Delhi registered their participation in the Harit Utsav, which was presided over by Mr. Rai as chief guest. This Harit Utsav was organised to make children aware of Delhis pollution problems and environment. The Green Action Plan for Delhi was launched by the Delhi Environment Minister on the occasion. All the children present at the programme took an oath for the mission and the 20 best eco clubs of Delhi were felicitated during the event. Along with this, free medicinal plants were also distributed by the department.

Mr. Rai enumerated the efforts being made by the government towards environmental conservation including a campaign called Green Park Green Delhi. To reduce air and noise pollution in Delhi, everyone must adhere to the Red Light On Gaadi Off guideline, he appealed. He also informed that single-use plastic is being outlawed totally, allowing the city to become a single plastic-free zone.

The students of The Indian School engaged in various activities on the pleasant Sunday morning of June 5, 2022. 20 students of the primary wing gathered on the School premises to plant saplings. In unison their chant, 'This planet is our only home and we need to save it for the upcoming generations rang out.

An Outdoor Sketching Session for the senior wing where students actively participated and drew images of the rich green foliage of the School campus. The event concluded with a nukkad natak to generate awareness and create an environment conducive for peace, harmony, prosperity and health.
