Summer internship with a chartered accountant for class 11 Commerce students

The Commerce students of class XI-C attended a week-long internship at Anil K. Maheshwari & Company from 27 May 20 to 31 May 2024. The internship began with the students being warmly welcomed at Anil K. Maheshwari & Company.

On the first day, they were enlightened about career options available after class 12 with a specific focus on Chartered Accountancy (CA) as a career choice. The students' questions about the nature of a CA's work were addressed comprehensively.

On the second day, the students learned how to create ledgers and make journal entries using Tally Prime. They were introduced to profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and the methods to create and interpret these financial statements. The third day was dedicated to gaining practical knowledge about using Excel to create graphs representing a company's shares or ledgers.

This hands'-on experience was invaluable in understanding data visualisation. On the fourth day, the focus shifted to taxation. The students learned to calculate taxes using different techniques, registered these calculations, and created a tax calculator. They were educated about slab rates and various types of taxes, including cess and surcharges.

The internship concluded with a presentation on “Choosing the Chartered Accountancy Profession.” The company also discussed various Excel equations and their applications, emphasising the importance of Excel and computer skills in the profession.

At this week-long internship, the students gained valuable insights into the profession of chartered accountancy, glimpsed the work done by a chartered accountant, and acquired numerous skills and knowledge that will be tremendously beneficial in their future careers.
