12th Llewelyn Debate and Quiz Competition, Sherwood College, Nainital
The Indian School participated in the 12th Llewelyn Debate and Quiz, hosted by Sherwood College, Nainital ( 6–8 September 2024). A team of four students, including Nyasa Sharma (IX), Tashika Rao (IX), Samiya Khurana (X), and Avni Mendiratta (X), represented our School in the competition. The group was accompanied by Ms Sahodra Pawaiya.
In the General Knowledge Quiz, Nyasa Sharma and Tashika Rao answered a wide range of questions on current affairs and general knowledge. Although their team did not qualify for the final round, it was a competitive and intense event, providing the students with a great opportunity to test their knowledge.
During the preliminary round, Samiya Khurana participated in the Turncoat Round, where her topic was "Media is no longer neutral". Nyasa Sharma took part in the Extempore Round delivering an impressive speech on the topic "Honour – the respect one gets from others". Both students presented excellent performances, earning positive feedback from the audience and judges alike.
In the quarter-finals, the team debated the motion "Deep-rooted corruption hinders the percolation of resources". Samiya Khurana, Tashika Rao, and Nyasa Sharma, supported by Avni Mendiratta, delivered strong and well-reasoned arguments in favour of the motion against Sherwood College. While Sherwood College ultimately secured the win, the performance of The Indian School team was widely lauded by both the judges and the audience for their insightful arguments and confident delivery. The team was commended for their well-structured arguments, strong teamwork, and poise under pressure. Their effort and skill in the competition reflected the high standards of preparation and intellectual depth they brought to the event, earning them much praise from their peers and educators alike. Moreover, Samiya Khurana of class X was awarded the Best Speaker prize for her outstanding performance in the quarter-finals.
Overall, the event provided an invaluable learning experience, allowing the students to sharpen their skills, gain exposure, and engage with students from other schools.
