3rd CBSE International Life Skills, Values, Gender, School Health and Well-Being Summit 2014
Life Skills, Values Education and Gender Sensitisation are an integral part of CBSE's curriculum and go hand in hand with educational reforms to empower learners with self-confidence, eco-sensitivity and a healthy approach to real-life situations, health, well-being and gender. This idea was the focus at the 3rd International Life-Skills and Wellness Summit, which took place on 10th, 11th and 12th December 2014 at Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony. Over 150 schools participated in this event from all over India, and even abroad.
Students of our School, namely Bhumika Narang, Shubham Airi, Chinmaya Iyer , Pranati Haldia and Saransh Grover actively took part in this summit. They were accompanied by the school counsellor, Ms. Sukhmeen Cheema.
The Summit started off with all participants being introduced to 'Bharti', the mascot of the event which was created by the art department of our School. Bharti beautifully symbolized what the summit signified, and added meaning to the event.
At the 'Global Health Exhibition', our School set up a stall displaying the several activities that are being undertaken at our School to inculcate life-skills in every child while tackling adolescent issues like bullying and pressure. Our shramdaan programme was much appreciated by all. We incorporated a 'Positivity Enhancing Lucky Dip', which brought forth smiles to numerous faces. Our 'Lifeskills Tree' also came in for. a lot of curiosity and compliments!
Bhumika Narang took part in the 'On the Spot Painting Competition' and presented a painting on the topic, 'Wellness and Health'. The vibrant colours and thought-provoking idea in the painting made it an alluring piece of art which was widely applauded.
Pranati Haldia took part in the 'Wellness Elocution' wherein she spoke extempore on the topic 'Media- The Double Edged Sword of Our Times'. She spoke about the influence that the social media has in the 21st century, and while it can, and has been used effectively at times, media persons in general need to realise that with great power comes responsibility.
Shubham Airi took part in a Youth Parliament where, with great zeal and passion, he plead for that an effective vocational training plan be made available to individuals to maximise the potential of the youth in our country. He highlighted the importance of the dignity of labour and was given a chance to even come on stage and share his views with the whole audience.
Chinmaya Iyer and Pranati Haldia participated in the 'Adoloscent Whiz-Quiz' which covered the spectrum of common health and well being issues that come spread across one's lifespan. A special emphasis was placed on contemporary issues. Our students offered tough competition to their competition!
Our whole team took part in the 'Thematic Jingle' and 'Theme Song' competitions. In the former,, they presented a gripping skit which dealt with the importance of the girl child in our society, while in the latter, they presented a unique motivational song called 'Raise Your Voice' which urged today's youth to bring Mahatma Gandhi's teaching to life by being the change they want to see! The students also actively took part in a number of workshops and activities and even presented a 'nukkad natak' on the topic 'Difference Between Sex and Gender' which was appreciated by one and all.
After 3 days of intensive and interesting training, the closing ceremony was graced by Mr Vineet Joshi, Fmr. Chairman, CBSE and Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, renowned psychologist and programme director of Expressions India. A cultural display was organised for us, participants and we got a glimpse of India's diverse nature in a series of dances, songs and skits. The Indian School Band also performed 'Krishna Nee Beghane', a fusion song, which left everybody overwhelmed. It was received with a thunderous applause and showers of praise.
It was in great pride that our team went up on stage to receive 'The Special Jury Award' at the international summit. Pranati Haldia was awarded 'The Special Recognition Award'.
It is experiences like these that teach us innumerable life lessons and give us an opportunity to interact with so many diverse people. We sincerely thank our School for the same.
