C.C.E Workshop

On 10 January, 2014, a workshop on Comprehensive and Continuous Evaluation was conducted at our School. Our teachers Mrs. Abha, Mrs. Asha, Mrs. Bhanu, Mrs. Minoo, Mrs. Sonia, Mrs. Shweta and Ms. Priya collaborated to present the workshop,.

The workshop was initiated by Mrs Abha with a short video clip on Exam Fever which depicted the stress related to examinations in general.

The C.C.E focuses on the holistic development of the child. It includes peer- learning, group activities and oral communication. C.C.E refers to a regular and continuous assessment of each child not only in academic subjects but also in extra- curricular activities and life skills.

A short video clip on A Brief History of Assessment was shown which focused on formative and summative assessments and how these assessments help teachers understand the progress of student learning and guide them in applying corrective measures at each level. The teacher can always deviate from her usual instructional methods to meet the individual needs of students in a diverse learning group.

Mrs Shweta, revealed relevant facts about the tools for assessment. Formative assessments involve a regular descriptive feedback to the teacher. Commonly used formative assessment tools include observations, collaborative activities, questioning and goal- setting. Activities for formative assessment like field trips, role- play, quizzing, map work, poster designing, individual and group activities and projects were listed and discussed. .

A group activity was conducted by Mrs Bhanu where teachers were directed to plan three activities relating to a subject topic for formative assessment.

Mrs, Asha narrated a story which was followed by a sample role-play focussing on the development of language skills.

Finally an activity Developing a Rubric was introduced. Teachers had to design a rubric which catered to three critical learning dimensions of the task assigned.

Mrs. Sonia, explained the concept of Summative Assessment and the exercises which can be used to make an effective Summative Assessment. The Assessment pattern adopted at our School was discussed.

Ms. Priya, summed up the workshop with reasons why C.CE is helpful and what strategies can be used by the teacher to use Formative assessments as a diagonostic tool. Giving examples, she said that anxiety and stress should not be allowed to arise during assessments. On the contrary, the focus needs to be on developing a love for learning.

Finally a video on 21st century education named Do You Realize was shown which focused on what the world needs today for effective learning by integrating technology .
