Class 6 visit to The National Crafts' Museum
An enthusiastic batch of class VI students visited the National Crafts' Museum on 6th September, 2016.
The museum comprises various galleries such as the Tribal and Rural Craft Gallery, Gallery of Courtly Crafts, Textile Gallery and Gallery of Popular Culture, etc. Some of its prized collections include, the 250/300-year-old Bhoota Collection from Karnataka, rare Kashmiri 300-year-old dushalas, rare brocade and Baluchari saris, Kutch embroidery and precious metal jewellery. The museum is particularly popular for its exhaustive collection of textiles. The children were shown these collections and made aware of their relevance.

An audio visual presentation on wood carving briefed them on the technique of making wooden articles and giving them a natural hue with varnish. The video exemplified a work of art in a very simple manner. After viewing the video, students took a round of the area where several craftspeople sat working. Our students were captivated by the skill and workmanship many of these craftsmen exhibited. Several bought little mementos to take home.
