Earth Day Activities across the School
"We need joy as we need air. We need love as we need water. We need each other as we need the earth we share." Maya Angelou
Environment and Economy are two sides of the same coin. If we cannot sustain the environment, we cannot sustain ourselves.
This year's "Earth Day" celebrations revolved around the theme- 'From Trash to Treasure.'
Earth Day celebrations commenced on the morning of 21st April'23 with an address by Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, on the need to adopt sustainable practices in our day-to-day activities, viz. saving water, saving energy, saving resources like paper, recycling materials and enlightening the young minds on how climate change is impacting our lives.
Next, Ashwini Prakash of class IX-C shared her views on the topic - THE PLIGHT OF OUR MOTHER EARTH. Then, Haritma Sharma of XII D followed up by reciting a self-composed poem highlighting climate change's effects. Finally, Viraaj Gaba of class XI presented a self-composed rap with Anush Malik also of class XI providing the beats for the rap.
An array of activities were organised class-wise in the zero period to convey the message of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The main objective was to sensitise the young minds and create awareness through activities like nature walks, best out of waste, recycling materials, and saying no to single-use plastic, and also eliminate the harmful effects caused by the climate crisis.
Let's take a look at the class-wise activities taken up by the students as listed below:
Class 1 made self-portraits using old newspaper and dry leaves. They thoroughly enjoyed this activity.
Class 2 made impressions of leaves and flowers on handmade dough and painted these in their favourite colours to make them look beautiful.
Class 3 made planters using old plastic bottles to reuse waste materials and contribute to a cleaner environment. It is a fun and creative way to reuse waste material and grow plants. At the same time, it teaches children the importance of recycling and environmental conversation.
Class 4 engaged in poster-making on the theme, " reclaiming my planet". Students brainstormed to compose catchy slogans and messages to convey the theme. They used bold and bright colours to make their posters eye-catching and visually appealing.
Meanwhile, the children of class 5 made a terrarium-a fun and creative way to bring some nature into the living space while providing numerous benefits for both physical and mental. They are a sustainable and eco-friendly way to beautify any area and get some of the outdoors inside.
Middle and Senior School students designed and created various things like bookmarks, pen stands, and stationery organisers using waste materials. The students of class IX wrote poems, and some even composed a rap on the theme 'Kabaad Se Jugaad.'
The students of class XI tried their hands at mural art using bottle caps, used wrapping paper, old newspaper, and empty chip packets.
The main objective was to educate young minds and encourage them to value resources and adopt the principles of sustainable development.
'EVERY DAY IS EARTH DAY,' and the purpose of celebrating Earth Day is to keep our grass green and our skies blue with more trees and less pollution.
