Excursion to the Indira Gandhi Museum- class 4

School excursions are always welcome, both as a break from classroom routines and for the edutainment they offer. Visiting museums goes beyond reinforcing the lessons that children learn at School, by adding a new perspective to their understanding.

Accompanied by their teachers, the students of class IV went on an educational outing to the Indira Gandhi Museum on Thursday 15th December 2016.

The museum is the erstwhile residence of Late Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister of India. Set in off white, the bungalow sits on a massive expanse covered with sprawling lawn and fringed with scores of plants, flowers and bushes. The children were briefed beforehand about what they were to see and were therefore prima facie familiar with the history associated with Mrs. Gandhi.

The children were walked around the exhibits as the teachers read them accounts of the displays they were viewing. The excited chatter and incessant queries continued as we walked the galleries at the venue. Some curiously observed the personal memorabilia of the leader in great awe, while others were in animated recollection of what they had heard and could now see.

The children turned quiet as they approached the pathway where Mrs. Gandhi last walked including the spot where she was shot. The spot is now encased in glass.

A short film on the life of Mrs. Gandhi was also shown which we watched with great interest. After the informative walk-through, the children boarded back their buses and proceeded to the park near School. Here we unpacked our refreshments and the children ran about in abandon.

Later, filled with memories of a wonderfully spent day, we walked back to School.
