Hands' on training in Design at Pearl Academy for class 11
On 29 April 2025, 9 students of class XI had the opportunity to visit Pearl Academy for a day filled with creativity, innovation and hands'-on learning. The visit included participation in two engaging and insightful workshops on interior design and product design, conducted by experienced professionals from the industry.
The day began with a workshop on Interior Design led by Professor Richard Bara. The students were assigned the task of designing a corner of a home, with all the necessary materials provided. To enhance their models, they creatively used magazine cutouts to incorporate textures, furniture pieces, and aesthetic inspirations.
Professor Bara was extremely supportive, guiding the students through the creative process and offering constructive feedback and expert suggestions. The workshop proved to be highly interactive and enjoyable, encouraging students to explore spatial design from both practical and artistic perspectives.
The second workshop of the day focused on Product Design, offering a deep dive into the process of reimagining everyday objects through a new lens. Initially, students were asked to select a common item and redesign or enhance its functionality. The challenge escalated when the students were told to redesign the same product keeping in mind how their grandmothers would use it, a prompt that encouraged empathy-driven and inclusive design thinking!
A standout idea came from Aanya Gupta of class XI-D, who chose to redesign a laptop stand. Acknowledging her grandmother’s limited familiarity with technology, Aanya created a versatile book-reading stand. Her innovative design was foldable, adjustable, included an integrated lamp and paper holder, and was both user-friendly and portable, a thoughtful and practical solution that demonstrated creativity and sensitivity to user needs.
Both the workshops were immensely valuable, providing the students with an enriching experience that combined creativity with real-world application. The exposure broadened their perspectives, enhanced their problem-solving skills, and inspired them to think more critically and innovatively.
The visit to Pearl Academy was not just educational, but also an inspiring journey into the world of design, one that left a lasting impression on every participant.
