AWIM (A World in Motion) and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki organised the Jet Toy and Skimmer Regional Olympics on 27th October 2016 at the Hotel Maple Emerald in Delhi.
Adamya Saxena, Uday Soni, Anthariksh Nair and Maanya Arora of class V participated in the Skimmer Category while Mohammed Umar, Sasmit Deysarkar, Bhuvi Kashyap and Aditi Gaur of class VI participated in the Jet Toy Category. The Skimmer Event required the contestants to construct paper sailboats and test the effect of varying shapes and sizes of sails, its construction style and its performance. Friction, force, surface area and design were some of the concepts to be explored in this event.
[gallery link="file"]The contestants in the Jet Toy Event were required to build a balloon-powered toy car that met specific performance criteria such as travel time, weight carrying capacity and speed. Jet propulsion, friction, air resistance and design were the core concepts of this exercise.
The fabricated creations were judged on different criteria, namely maximum speed, maximum distance, time accuracy, maximum weight carrying capacity and presentation. Our Schools Jet Toy team took the 3rd prize for their entry.
The entire experience was a spirited journey of exploration and experimentation which inspired our students to deliver well even as they enjoyed doing so.
