Honours at International Adolescent Summit 2016

Four students of class XI, Simran Narula, Ritwika Dasgupta, Rishabh Bhatia and Kshitij Srivastava, accompanied by School counsellor, Ms. Enakshi Rai attended the International Adolescent Summit on Life Skills, Values, Gender and School Wellbeing at the Summer Fields School from 6th to 8th December 2016. Over 500 students and teachers from all over India participated in the summit, which provided students with a platform to connect and share their experiences and views with their peers.

On the first day, students were busy setting up and decorating the stall of our School for the Global Health Exhibition to be held the next day. The Youth Parliament, On the Spot Painting Competition and Adolescent Quiz were also scheduled for the first day. While Rishabh Bhatia took part in the On the Spot Poster Making Competition, Simran Narula attended the Youth Parliament, while Ritwika Dasgupta and Kshtij Srivastava participated in the Adolescent Quiz.

All of these events were taking place simultaneously in different venues at School. The events ended around lunch and post this, delegates were ' edutained' with dance presentations and street plays. A group of students of our School presented a Rajasthani folk dance. The day ended with the readying of the School stall, which showcased the work of Citizenship campaign, and the role of School in instilling life skills and values in students.

The students left the venue on the first day with an eagerness, excitement and determination to make the most of the next two days.

The second day began with a refreshing Health and Well being Walk followed by a sumptuous breakfast. The students took part in various competitions such as The Wellness Elocution, Thematic Jingle and the Theme song on Gender and Values. Simran Narula participated in the elocution with the topics, An easy way does not always mean it is worth it, success does not always come early.

A workshop was also conducted for the teachers and/or counsellors who accompanied the students from each school, on the subject of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences. The final round of the Adolescent Quiz also took place on this day.

Participating enthusiastically in these competitions was a fruitful and an enriching experience for the students.

The third and the last day of the Summit started with an interactive discussion on life skills and how students can cope with daily pressures. This was followed by fun activities where students were divided into groups, The Indian School and DPS Mathura Road were placed in one team. Each team had to examine all the stalls and unanimously decide which of them they found the best and why.

The second activity included the teams making a poster, thinking of a tagline and showcasing a skit explaining their tagline. The tagline of our team was the strange feeling of togetherness which was beautifully depicted by a poster and a short street play.

Post lunch, the delegates assembled near the stage to welcome chief guest, Mr. Rajat Sharma, who felicitated all the students with participation certificates and also spared his valuable time to address them and answer their questions.

This was followed by the award ceremony, where our School took the first prize for the best School stall in the Global Health Exhibition.

The three day summit taught us a lot more than what we could ever learn just with our books.
