IIT Delhi Open House, 12, visit by classes 10, 11 and 12.

On 21 April 2012, 46 Students from the science sections of classes 11 and 12, as well as some from class 10 went to IIT Delhi for Open House, I2 Tech 2012. They were accompanied by 5 teachers from the science department. I2 Tech aims to offer a unique insight into the curricula of IIT Delhi, using a display of research projects, developed technologies and technical workshops by the students and faculty. This it undeniably achieved and left us overwhelmed by what we saw! The inauguration ceremony started off with a felicitation ceremony followed by an interesting keynote address by Professor Aditya Mittal. Speaking on Biological (r) Evolution in IITD Delhi, Professor Mittal, compared the evolution of Biological Studies in IITD to the evolution of the first cells in the universe. We then proceeded to the exhibits in the departments. The design degree show was also one much looked forward to. The core exhibits covered a variety of new technologies developed at IITD, including Hydrogen-powered 3 wheelers, Interactive Virtual Display, Needle-free and trans-dermal delivery of drugs, and many more. Next we went to one of the Chemistry labs, where we saw the amazing effects of liquid Nitrogen (which has an amazingly low temperature of -197oC) on other objects and substances. This was followed by a set of displays showcasing laser technology, including a thrilling display of robotics. We then divided ourselves into 2 groups and headed for the Photonics and Glass-Blowing labs. After that to the Amazing Chemistry showcase, where students were demonstrating 8 different experiments which utilised the chemical properties of substances to create extraordinary effects. These included Dry Ice, Lightning in a test tube, the creation of Nylon and a very realistic miniature-volcano, among others. While some of us delved deeper into these experiments, others went headed to the computer labs. Needless to say, we all had an amazing time, and learnt many new things about different facets of science. The annual Open House was a heady dose of inspiration and motivation for all of us inclined to assimilate in the discipline when we complete school. As reported by students of class 12.
