Presentation of investigatory project in Math by class 11

On 7 December 2023, a team of students from The Indian School participated in the 32nd Shri R.S. Niamat Rai Memorial Contest of Investigatory Projects in Mathematics, organized by Spring Dales School, Pusa Road. Our team comprising Aarush Mahajan, Kanav Nagpal, Pronoy Mitra, and Tanisha Mehndiratta from class XI, showcased their project titled “Hyperloglog#+”.

The contest was specifically designed for the students of class XI-XII, and around 10 schools from Delhi NCR participated, each presenting investigatory projects addressing various global issues.

The participating schools tackled a range of global issues such as breast cancer, staff management in hospitals and emergency areas, and solutions for providing instant help in disaster situations. The teams used innovative approaches involving linear programming, game theory, greedy algorithms, and other mathematical concepts for hazard assessment and voting distribution.

Our School team presented the project “Hyperloglog#+,” focusing on developing an algorithm to count distinct elements in large data sets. The examples demonstrated how the algorithm could accurately count unique users, viewers, and listeners on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify, effectively addressing the issue of repetition. The project’s emphasis on platforms like Facebook, YouTube, and Spotify highlighted its practical applications in the real world, showcasing its potential to provide accurate and efficient solutions to problems related to data analysis.

It was an enriching experience, as it provided an opportunity for students to explore new and innovative ideas in the field of mathematics. Such events play a crucial role in fostering creativity, problem-solving skills, and a passion for mathematics among students.
