Programme for Environmental Awareness in Schools
A seminar on Programme for Environmental Awareness in Schools was organised by PEAS on Friday, 7th April, 2017 in the Multipurpose Hall at the IIC. Principal Ms. Tania Joshi and Ms. Pratima Roy ( Primary) attended the seminar.
Noted economist and conservationist, Dr. Isher Ahluwalia spoke on the topic 'Smart Cities'. She explained how cities are developing into smart cities requiring a multi-faceted approach. Industry must grow harmoniously with general development for this, she emphasised. She also suggested ways to take better care of the environment by taking effective measures for waste management, using bio-degradable materials and ensuring a scientific management of landfills. These steps will go a long way in preserving Spaceship Earth as liveable place.
Ms. Dilnavaz Variava, graduate of the first batch at IIM, Ahmadabad, spoke on Agriculture and emerging future trends, e.g. genetically manipulated agricultural products and the dangers of introducing such crops on a large scale. She spoke extensively about the need for organic farming and how we can educate children about the same. She suggested ways in which teachers can offer inputs to young minds, who can then develop ideas on their own.
We are proud to say that our School has already begun the initiative by encouraging our students to work with the soil at the School eco park. where organic methods are used to grow seasonal vegetables.
The seminar was a very interesting one and was attended by teachers of many reputed schools.
A vote of thanks was offered by Dr. Sanaya Nariman.
Ms. Pratima Roy.
