Science Day Talk on Pharmacogemomics for class 8

The future of medicine lies not in treating diseases alone, but in understanding the unique genetic story of every individual.

On 16 February 2026, The Indian School transformed into a vibrant hub of scientific curiosity as it observed Science Day with a deeply engaging and intellectually stimulating session on “Pharmacogenomics – The Future of Personalised Medicine.” The enlightening talk was delivered by Dr VNL Sirisha, Technical Associate at the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi, for the enquiring minds of class VIII.

Blending scientific precision with real-world relevance, Dr Sirisha introduced the students to the fascinating science of pharmacogenomics—a revolutionary field that studies how an individual’s genetic blueprint influences their response to medicines. She explained the scientific process of gene testing using biological samples such as blood and buccal (cheek) swabs to decode DNA sequences. Through this genetic insight, physicians can design personalised therapeutic strategies, ensuring safer, more effective, and targeted treatments—marking a shift from generalised medication to precision healthcare.

Taking the discussion deeper, Dr Sirisha highlighted how pharmacogenomics is redefining modern medicine by replacing the traditional “one-size-fits-all” approach with data-driven individualised care. She spoke about India’s growing footprint in genomic research, where scientists and medical institutions are rigorously studying genetic diversity across populations to develop highly precise and culturally relevant treatment protocols. This integration of genetics, biotechnology, and computational science is paving the way for predictive, preventive, and personalised healthcare systems.

The session evolved into a dynamic scientific dialogue as students posed insightful questions on genetic screening, bioethics, data privacy, and the future scope of genome-based medicine. Encouraging young scientific temper, Dr Sirisha inspired the students to explore emerging careers in biotechnology, genomics, pharmaceutical sciences, and medical research, emphasising that the next breakthrough in human health may emerge from curious young minds.

The session was not merely a lecture but a scientific exploration into the molecular language of life. It expanded students’ understanding of cutting-edge medical innovation and reinforced the role of research, technology, and scientific thinking in shaping a healthier future. Science Day at The Indian School was thus celebrated as a tribute to discovery, enquiry, and the limitless potential of science to transform human life.
