Science in the Lap of Nature- an excursion to the School Eco Park, class 5A, D and E.

Students of classes VA, D and E arrived at School on Friday 21st October 2016, brimming with excitement and anticipation as it was the day scheduled for their visit to the School Eco park near Sohna.

Along with their teachers, they set off for their destination at around 8:30 am. The entire bus journey was astir with their lively and zestful chatter. They were quickly divided into two groups as soon as they reached the farm. One group moved towards the field where vegetables were being picked and the other moved towards the area where life size science models are mounted.

The first group was taken around the beds of sweet potato, onion and garlic and the ready- to-harvest bitter gourd, bottle gourd, brinjal, spinach and pumpkin. They watched with keen interest as the gardener picked the vegetables in their presence. They equally delighted in the hands'-on experience of sowing radish seeds and some garlic pods as the mali directed!

The other group curiously examined the large science models. One model, Fun with Mirrors, was very enjoyable as it formed funny images with the reflection of concave, convex and plane mirrors. Another model, Musical Tubes was based on the concept that the pitch of any vibrating material is inversely proportional to the length of the same. This concept used in string instruments was practically demonstrated here. The Third Class Lever was another interesting exhibit here. The mechanical advantage gained from a third order lever is illustrated by varying the fulcrum distance from the weight.

The students returned to School happily exhausted. They had thoroughly enjoyed their experience, an amalgamation of science and nature.
