Session on Aerodyanmics as a career option

On 25th November 2016, several science students of classes XI and XII attended a stimulating workshop on 'Aerodynamics as a career option' by Dr. Martin Jackson, senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield.

The workshop was conducted in the AV room and began with an audio visual presentation on aerodynamics. Dr. Jackson briefed us about aerodynamics engineering and the courses offered at Sheffield University in this field. Further, he discussed the admission requirements there. According to him, the course is tough and trainees are required to give their best during trials and are even expected to navigate in harsh weather conditions. As part of their training, they are trained to become adept at both landing and taking off. The course is thorough and tests their endurance, both physical and and temperamental.

The students were briefed about the components of an airplane, from its engine to its compact parts and the role of iron and steel in its manufacturing. Then came the technical aspects of aerodynamics-the science of motion of air and its components. It was all very intriguing!

The session ended with a question round in which the students interacted freely on the aspects that Dr. Jackson had so adroitly aroused curiosity about. He seemed to have awakened a desire in many to be a part of this wonderful field in science!
