Term-end trip to Jim Corbett, classes 5 and 6.
Upon the successful completion of a very fruitful term, the students of classes V and VI were delighted for an opportunity of going on an excursion to the Jim Corbett National Park. A group of 100 students accompanied by 10 teachers assembled at School as early as 5 in the morning on 21 March, 2014, in great excitement of the trip!
We quickly settled into the luxury buses and set off on our journey. The daybreak through our windows with the fresh Spring breeze upon a cheeks was wonderful. We halted at Gajraula for breakfast and then reboarded our buses to proceed.
We reached Jim Corbett at 2:45 pm and checked in at The Golden Tusk Resort, where the students were treated to a sumptuous lunch. They settled their luggage in the allotted suites and tents, freshened up and boarded the buses again to proceed to the Garija Devi temple on the outskirts of the Corbett National Park. The temple is seated upon a large rock in the Kosi river and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas 5000 years ago!

After visiting the temple, we returned to the resort. A documentary film on Saving the Tiger was shown to us which the students watched in enthusiasm. Thereafter there h dinner and we retired to our rooms .
The next morning was full of anticipation for all of us as we got ready for our safari ride in open jeeps. The gorgeous morning added to our exhilaration!
The landscape with it's rich bio-diversity was an instant attraction. We gasped with excitement each time we spotted deer, special birds, monkeys, a peacock with his upright fan of psychedelic feathers, an elephant, a snake etc. We also caught numerous pug marks but the tiger remained elusive.
On our way back the children excitedly recounted their experiences. They related easily, having recently learnt about animals, their habitat and their adaptations in their science syllabus!
We had breakfast and then occupied our leisure with hide and seek, football , badminton etc on the sprawling landscaped estate of the resort. Post lunch, we visited the Corbett Waterfalls which are at a height of about 60 feet and had a scenic forest for a backdrop. A nearby attraction was a nature trail where we strolled, absorbing the sheer nature around us in silence.
The evening activity was a bonfire where we all sang and even shyly danced withh with the children!
It had been another example of ' edutainment' and a great reinforcement of what had been taught in the classroom besides so much else.
