Top honours at MUN
Elenchus 2023' held by K.R. Mangalam School included an Model United Nations (MUN) from August 2325, 2023 garnered participation from 20 prestigious schools of Delhi NCR. Our School team comprised 9 students namely, Aaryan Sehgal VII B, Ritika Joshi XII E, Japleen Kaur XII B, Samiya Khurana IX C, Sanya Passi IX B, Ananya Pal IX C, Khushal Bansal XI C, Vansh Sharma IX C and Haritmaa Sharma XII D.
The students got the opportunity to interact with several delegations who represented various nations, committees and profiles. Everyone was there to give it their all, so it was a tough competition. What followed were insightful debate and engaging conversation. The MUN entailed various committees which included:
UNHRC: The UNHRC was primarily concerned with matters relating to the promotion and protection of human rights around the world. Participants acted as delegates from different nations and collaborated to address challenges through discussion, bargaining, and resolution writing. In the category, Japleen Kaur represented the USA, Sanya Passi, the UAE, and Haritmaa Sharma, Japan. Haritmaa Sharma XII D was declared the Best Delegate in this category.
WHO: While learning about the complexity of global health concerns and the initiatives taken by international organisations like the World Health Organisation to solve them, participants had the chance to hone their diplomatic, negotiating, public speaking, research, and teamwork abilities. Samiya Khurana IX C represented the UK and was named the Best Delegate in this category.
IP: In this committee, members acted out the role of reporters covering the MUN conference in the same way that actual reporters cover global events. Ananya Pal IX C received the title, Best Photographer.
ECOSOC: Participants acted as representatives from various nations, participating in dialogue on a variety of economic and social topics. These covered a variety of subjects, including the eradication of poverty, sustainable development, gender equality, international health, and education. Students collaborated to arrive at resolutions and initiatives that would address these international issues. Belgium was represented by Ritika Joshi and Japan was represented by Vansh Sharma. Ritika Joshi XII E was awarded with the title Best Delegate and Vansh Sharma IX C received a Special Mention.
FIFA: Delegates took on the roles of various nations or areas within FIFA in a Model United Nations meeting. They spoke about a range of soccer-related subjects, including the administration of the game, rules and regulations, international competitions, encouraging fair play and sportsmanship, and problems within the soccer community. Aaryan Sehgal VIIB and Khushal Bansal XIC, who represented Concacaf and the Asian Football Confederation respectively, received Special Mention.
The students were felicitated with certificates and trophies for their exemplary performance. Overall, everyone who participated found it to be a terrific opportunity to learn and ideate.
