18th Dr Amidas Goradia Hindi Debate

Deliberation and debate are the way you stir the soul of our democracy.

The Indian School hosted the 18th edition of the Dr Amidas Goradia Debate in Hindi on 8 August 2022.

Debating encourages the development of oratory skills and brings out innovative and creative ideas to build a case. The breadth of new knowledge that the participants acquire in the process is quite unparalleled.

The prestigious debate saw the participation of 19 prominent schools from Delhi and NCR.

Young participants from classes 4 and 5 exhibited great poise and outstanding clarity and articulation for their years.

The august gathering included dignitaries from the school governing body, School Vice- Chairperson of the Managing Committee Ms Brinda Shroff, Principal Ms Tania Joshi, Vice Principal Dr Anu Singh, Head-mistress Ms Vandana Tiwari. Also present were office bearer of the school PTA Body and the teachers in- charge of the participating schools and a few parents.

Ms Tania Joshi, warmly welcomed the participating schools and appreciated their role in helping the debate acquire prominence over the years. The event started with a remembrance of our martyrs who gave their lives for our independence.

Chief guest, Mr Vageesh Jha, eminent innovative educationist, addressed the gathering. In his inspiring speech, he spoke about poets and poetry and the importance of linkages and articulation. He said simplicity of communication is an expression of clarity. He said wins and losses both teach.

Our judges included Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Editor Aaj Tak, Ms. Sarika Kalra, Associate Professor Lady Sri Ram Collage and Mr. Rajesh Khar: Journalist, Editor, also encouraged the young participants.

The topics for the debate were

- Time table ka bandhan todo, kab kya padhna hai yeh hum per chhodo. - Bhojan vahi jiska swaad man bhaye , paushtikta ke kaun gun gaye. - Smart phone hai to smart hai hum!

The first topic to be debated was about the compulsions of having a time-table students in favour of the motion petitioned that compulsion hampers creativity and the learning outcomes. On the other hand, students speaking against the motion argued that without rules life goes haywire, similar to a horse without reins.

The speakers made their case in proposition and opposition with equal conviction on the second topic- benefits of healthy food. Speaking for the motion, the young speakers emphasised that Indian culture speaks of ' 56 bhog' then why unnecessarily deprive the taste buds. Their opponents contested that it is the healthy food choices which strengthen the immune system and also mental and spiritual health.

The third topic saw the vivacious debaters spar over the motion that smart phones are the most popular source of communication, besides being a great source of information for students. With the help of mobile phones, students can easily access different kinds of educational resources on the internet from anywhere and anytime. The counter arguments insisted that smart phones are taking distressing the emotional and social quotient.

All the participants were felicitated with certificates for successful participation.

Air Force Bal Bharti School , Lodhi Road won the Rolling Trophy and Vasant Valley School took home the Runners-up Trophy.

The event ended with the School song presented by the School choir.
