Access 2014

Computers and Information Technology have, without a doubt, changed the world entirely. In 2014, Bits N Bytes, the computer club at Modern School, Barakhamba Road celebrated 26 years of excellence and to commemorate this milestone, the school organised its 26th Annual Computing Symposium - Access 2014 on 23rd and 24th December. 80 schools participated from the Delhi and NCR region, some of whom were

  • Amity International School, Gurgaon, Apeejay School, Sainik Vihar, Pitampura, The Banyan Tree, Lodhi Road, Cambridge School, Indirapuram, Ryan International School, Gurgaon, Springdales School, Pusa Road, Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan, Delhi Public School, R K Puram, Delhi Public School, Vasant Kunj, Tagore International School, East of Kailash, ourselves, and others.

  • The chief guest at the event was Mr. S D Mishra, DCP Delhi Police Traffic Department and cyber crime specialist. Mr. Mishra has worked with the economic offences wing of the Delhi Police for 10 years. He shared a power point presentation on e-awareness and stressed that students should be very cautious about data, photos etc. that they upload on public websites like Facebook, Twitter etc. He explained that any data uploaded could be retrieved even after many years.

    The events for Access were categorized into four tiers of competition:
  • Open events, for classes VI-XII
  • Junior events, for classes IX and X.
  • Sub-junior events, for students of VI to VIII.
  • Cadet events for students of class V and below.
  • Our School participated in the following events in the Senior and Open categories :

  • Movie-making
  • Group Discussion
  • Quiz and
  • Story-Writing
  • The Group Discussion was focussed on topics related to computing and general affairs. In the preliminary round, 7 topics were randomly assigned to the participants 30 seconds before they had to give a 1 minute speech on the same. The topics included 'Should Uber be Banned',' Apple vs Facebook- A Better Revenue Model', 'Should Computing be Made Compulsory in Schools', 'Exclusivity of Online Sales' among others. Pranati Haldia represented our School and was given the topic 'Is Facebook Acquiring Whatsapp a Leap for Internet Dominance or Revenue Generation?' She tried to convince the judges with her point of view, and was chosen to be one of the 10 selected participants who had qualified for the next round out of the 50 schools that had taken part in the competition! In the next round, a round table moderated discussion took place on the topic 'The Viability of internet.org as a Project in the 21st Century'. She was one of the five students who were chosen for the final round which took place on the topic 'Viability of e-Commerce Websites as an Investment.' Pranati came out winner taking the 3rd prize in this event.

    Story Writing- Anushka Raheja and Pranati Haldia took part in the Story-Writing Competition. It was an open event and saw over 150 entries. Both of our students chose to write on the 4th theme, which demanded a specified ending. While Anushka strung together a classical romantic tale while Pranati wrote an emotional tragedy.
