Accountancy Workshop for teachers by Institute of Company Secretaries of India

Ms. Pooja Bahl attended a special orientation programme for Accountancy teachers at The Institute of Company Secretaries of India at Rajendra Place, on 25 July, 2015. The orientation programme provided updates on the changes in the curriculum and the question paper for class XII in the academic session, 2015-16. The workshop was conducted by two eminent scholars and authors in the subject, namely, CA (Dr.) G.S. Grewal and Mr. R.K. Khosla. CA Grewal is the author of accountancy textbooks, both CBSE and ICSE. He is also a faculty member with Accounting Standards for Implementation of Accounting Standards in Educational Institutions, an initiative of the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, UGC, AITEC, CBSE and ICAI. He was Joint Statutory Auditor of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India for 2006 07 to 2008 09. Mr. R.K. Khosla has teaching experience of over 40 years. He is a faculty member of Northern India Regional Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and was also formerly a faculty member of NIRC of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

The highlight of the discussions at this one day workshop were provisions in the new Companies Act, 2013 and implications on the curriculum of Accountancy in classes XI and XII. Recent circulars issued by CBSE on revised guidelines for Accountancy project were also shared by the esteemed speakers. New provisions relating to the debenture redemption reserve and employees' stock option plan were discussed in detail with more than 120 teachers attending the workshop. In the second part of the workshop, Prof. J.K. Bareja ( Delhi University) spoke on Financial Markets. He focussed on the key terms relating to the financial market, introduced in classes XI and XII.
