Teenagers often believe that theres nothing more than board examinations for class 12th. Doing well in high school examinations is very important but at the same time, its not everything that matters.
While some students have already decided what they want to do after class 12, around 70% teenagers are often clueless about career choice to pursue. Most students are also unaware of the options available for them. To their minds, the options available are mostly limited to Engineering, Medicine, Law, Civil Services, Defence, and a few others.
To help our students resolve the dilemma regarding career choices and to obtain information about scholarships available in India and abroad, a few webinars were organised by School in collaboration with Pratham Institute. The webinars were for the teachers, students and the parents of classes XI and XII.
The webinars that were arranged were:
1. 'Scholarships in India and abroad' on 28 April 2021 from 10:30 am 11:30 am
2. Career options for Science on 29 April 2021 from 10:30 am-11:30 am
3. Career options for Commerce and Humanities on 30 April at 10:30 am
The webinars provided very useful information to the students about the different scholarships available in India and colleges overseas. The resource persons shared details about universities in India and abroad. He touched upon the different courses available under scholarship schemes. Students and parents asked questions that were promptly answered by the resource persons.
One of the resource persons, Mr Binit Binod, shared information pertaining to the CUCET system (Central University Common Entrance Test). He explained how talks were going on between the various stakeholders regarding the new system of admission to universities in India. Mr Binod pointed out that the system was based on a 50-50 weightage, which means that 50% weightage would be given to the marks scored in class XII and 50% weightage would be given to the marks scored in the aptitude test.
He then mentioned figures regarding the number of seats available in the country for different courses like the MBBS and Engineering along with the number of applicants for the same. He shared a PPT of eminent personalities from the fields of politics, entertainment and science. The idea underlying this was to open the minds, as it were of the students to realise that an alternative career option maybe chosen if one is unable cope with the pressures of the popular options.
The webinars were very helpful, especially as a lack of exposure and guidance, leads to undue pressure and stress. Thorough research, active interest and an aptitude to do something are essential pre requisites of a good career choice.
The students participated in the session along with their parents and very appreciative of the opportunities.
