CBSE Capacity Building workshop for classes 9 and 10 science teachers
A capacity building workshop for the science teachers of classes 9 and 10 was conducted by CBSE on 19 and 20 September 2018 at Queen Mary's School, Model Town. Our teachers, Ms. Nausheen Wasi and Ms. Khushboo Rawat attended the workshop. The aim of the exercise was to refresh and reinforce basic methodologies of some very important aspects of teaching and learning the subject in these classes. The resource persons were Ms. Meenu Tiwari and Mr. R.K. Srivastava. There were 68 participating teachers from various schools of Delhi. The teachers were asked to sit in groups, each group comprising 5 teachers.
Day 1 was set for an ice breaker session followed by an overview of the basics of teaching and learning the subject.
In the second session Blooms Taxonomy was discussed in detail. Benjamin Bloom classified the learning outcomes into the following categories: Remembering Understanding Application Analysis Evaluation Creation
Framing of questions based on the above named outcomes was discussed with the help of handouts.

Further, a session was dedicated to discuss various teaching methodologies. After an open discussion each group prepared and presented a concept map on the methodologies assigned to it, namely, deductive-inductive, role play, demonstration, interactive lecture, problem solving and research.
The last session of the day was devoted to the formulation of unit plans and lesson plans for various topics. The teachers discussed the lesson plans based on the different subjects that come under the umbrella ofScience.
Day 2 was about assessment, evaluation and its purpose. Participants were given a variety of questions. They evaluated each question as good or bad and suggested ways to improve upon the same. There were animated discussions and deliberations. It was a wonderful session.
The session on laboratory work and its evaluation was also very useful. It dealt with the various skills learnt by the students during laboratory work. Each group chose a practical to explain all its aspects as well as the precautions required to carry it out successfully. Various problems faced by the students in performing these experiments were also discussed.
The last session was dedicated to the presentation of lesson plans prepared the previous day. One group presented a lesson while the others observed and shared their views on the same. The topics delivered by our teachers were: Demonstration method to discuss manufacture of caustic soda and Activity method to learn the parts of a flower.
It was an enriching session with a lively exchange of fresh ideas and teaching methodologies.
