CBSE teacher workshop on Competency-Based Assessment in Social Science
A workshop on Competency-Based Assessment (CBA) in Social Science was conducted by CBSE at Bal Bhawan Public School, Mayur Vihar. Ms Aastha Arya of The Indian School attended this two-day workshop on 30 and 31 January 2024. The resource persons, Ms Shiveti Biswas and Ms Meera Trivedi spoke about various techniques to develop and enhance Competency-Based Assessment in Social Science. The workshop aimed at empowering educators with the necessary skills and insights to implement these practices effectively in their teaching and evaluation. It also brought together thirty-six educators from various CBSE-affiliated schools across Delhi.
The primary objective of the workshop was -
- To introduce educators to the concept and principles of competency-based assessment.
- To provide practical strategies and tools for designing and implementing.
- To facilitate collaborative discussions and sharing of best practices among educators to enhance student learning outcomes.
The workshop comprised of a series of engaging sessions, interactive discussions, and hands-on activities, designed to address key aspects. Some of the key sessions included:
Understanding Competency-Based Assessment in Social Science: This session provided participants with a comprehensive overview of principles and its application in the teaching and evaluation of Social Science.
Designing Competency Frameworks for Social Science: Educators were guided through the process of designing competency frameworks tailored to Social Science subjects, with a focus on identifying the essential competencies and aligning them with curriculum objectives.
Assessment Strategies for Social Science: Various assessment strategies and tools specific to Social Science subjects were explored, including content-based assessments, source analysis, and inquiry-based assessments. Participants had the opportunity to develop assessment tasks aligned with competency-based objectives.
The workshop served as a valuable platform for educators to explore innovative assessment practices tailored to the specific needs and objectives of Social Science. By equipping educators with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to implement competency-based assessment effectively, the workshop contributed to the ongoing enhancement of teaching and learning processes in CBSE-affiliated schools.
