CBSE Teacher workshop on Information Technology

In a modern world where being IT literate is becoming a necessity, it is essential for students to possess the ability and knowledge to carry out all basic computer tasks independently.

Towards this end, a one-day Capacity Building Programme on Information Technology (402) for teachers of computer science was conducted by CBSE, simultaneously at ASN Sr Sec School, Mayur Vihar and St. Thomas School, Mandir Marg, on 12 July 2019.

The following theoretical and practical topics were covered:

Drafting questions for a short quiz using Kahoot. Kahoot.com is a site which helps prepare online quizes. Blog Prepare a Sway. Presentation on cyber security. Question bank for the subject. Recommendations for future work.

After this invigorating and informative session, the CBSE representative Mr Singh from the Skill Education department interacted with the teachers to resolve their queries. He explained that, in order to upgrade the skills and proficiency of the younger generation and also to spread awareness about various career options, the CBSE had started offering vocational courses in different sectors at the secondary level.

Skill education envisions imparting procedural knowledge and skills to students that will enable them to excel and emerge successful in life and at work. It works towards imparting education that is holistic, meaningful and skill oriented and which instils in the youth a sense of usefulness and responsibility. Teachers were told how they need to understand student perspectives and plan activities accordingly. If a student fails in any one of the three elective subjects- science, mathematic and social science-then the vocational subject offered as an additional subject (sixth) would be considered in its place. Thus, teh class X result would be computed, based upon the best five subjects.

The two extremely educative sessions concluded with a vote of thanks by the heads of the respective host schools and the awarding of certificates of participation to all attending teachers.
