CBSE Teacher workshop on Value Education at our School
A CBSE workshop on Value Education was conducted on 15 January at The Indian School by the Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, and Ms Neera Kohli. Ms Neera Kohli is a senior educator and administrator with over 33 years of experience in the field of education. She is a CBSE Resource Person for Political Science and Social Science, is associated with NCERT, and has collaborated with leading educational publishers, including authoring sample papers for Class XII Political Science. She has also undergone Training of Trainers (ToT) programmes and training at ISTM, and is associated with PM eVidya for conducting live sessions in Social Science and Political Science.
The workshop was attended by 60 teachers from The Indian School and The Indian School–Second Shift. The session was thoughtfully structured to emphasise the significance of value education in the teaching–learning process, with special focus on mental health, ethical decision-making, and emotional well-being. Ms Joshi highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in fostering safe, inclusive, and supportive classroom environments and stressed that teachers’ own mental and emotional well-being is fundamental to effective teaching.
Through interactive discussions, picture prompts, reflective activities, and case studies, participants explored core values such as honesty, empathy, integrity, respect, responsibility, and cooperation. The sessions also examined ways to integrate values across different subjects, encouraging self-reflection and reinforcing the idea that respect is earned through conduct. Emphasis was placed on the role of teachers as role models who must embody the values they seek to instil in their students.
The workshop further addressed broader dimensions of value education, including community, national, and global values. Thought-provoking discussions on ethics, success, and responsible citizenship, along with activities such as value integration tasks, picture card creation, and the ‘From Me to We’ reflection, enabled teachers to connect personal values with nation-building and global responsibility. A critical dialogue on the relationship between science and values, a collaborative case study titled Together We Can, and inspiring multimedia presentations further enriched the learning experience.
The workshop concluded with reflective and creative tasks that consolidated shared learning and inspiration. Overall, the programme was highly enriching and reaffirmed that value education is integral to holistic development, empowering teachers to nurture emotionally balanced, ethical, and socially responsible learners alongside academic excellence.
