Class 1 takes a Spring excursion to Lodhi Gardens

With the onset of spring, The Indian School organised an educational excursion to Lodhi Garden, a historical park located in the heart of New Delhi on 16th February 2024. A group of 177 students of class 1 along with seven teachers- Ms Ishleen, Ms Rhytham, Ms Jagrati, Ms Divya, Ms Priya, Ms Tanuja and Ms Shweeta, gathered in anticipation of a day filled with exploration and learning.

The purpose of the excursion was to provide students with an opportunity to explore the rich, historical and architectural heritage of the city while also enjoying the serene natural surroundings of Lodhi Garden which houses varied flora and fauna.

Upon reaching the venue, the group was welcomed by lush greenery spread over 90 acres of land and the majestic historical structures that define the park's landscape. The students along with the teachers were excited to explore the area and queued up diligently as they prepared for a walk through the park.

The group visited the Bada Gumbad and the Sheesh Gumbad, amongst other notable structures in the gardens which house several tombs and monuments from the Lodhi and Sayyed dynasties. The students were encouraged to observe and appreciate the details of Delhi's medieval architecture which they could relate to the PPT they had been shown at School before the excursion.

The well-manicured gardens, rich fauna, blooming flowers and fruit trees caught the attention of the students as we walked through the gardens. The children identified several plants that they were familiar with and shared their excitement with their peers! The teachers shared facts about the garden and the seasonal blossoms.

The chirping birds and the sighting of peacocks, parrots, the eagle and a black stork were an audio-visual treat for all. A bright, sunny, dry and picturesque spot offered the perfect location for the students to relax and play and munch on refreshments that they were carrying.

Finally when it was time to return and the students were reluctant as they seemed to be loving the outdoor experience.

The excursion proved to be a fulfilling and educational experience for all. It not only offered a glimpse into Delhi's historical past but also provided an opportunity for students to connect with nature. The blend of history, architecture, and natural beauty made the excursion both informative and enjoyable. Overall, it was a day well-spent, fostering a sense of appreciation for the cultural and historical heritage of our city.
