Class 12 excursion to the National Gandhi Museum

On 31 October 2023, the students of class XII (Commerce and Humanities) embarked on an educational excursion to the National Gandhi Museum at Rajghat. This insightful visit provided a better understanding of the life and the principles of Mahatma Gandhi. 45 students accompanied by two teachers visited the museum.

Upon arrival at the venue, the group was led around by a guide volunteer who meticulously told the story of Mahatma Gandhi, from his early years and his significant contributions. The guide skillfully presented an engaging, step-by-step account of the great leader’s life.

One of the most fascinating aspects of the visit was the interaction with the museum’s historical artefacts. The students got a unique opportunity to hear the voice of Mahatma Gandhi through the various antique telephones on display, immersing them in his world of pre independance times. They also listened to the rhythm of his heartbeat through a human-made device, which was a captivating and emotional experience.

The students felt inspired seeing replicas of Gandhiji’s office and home, offering them a glimpse into his daily life and work. This immersive experience provided valuable insights into the environment in which Gandhiji formulated his ideas and strategies.

This tour proved to be a treasure trove of information. It provided invaluable insights into Gandhiji’s life, philosophy and the historical context in which he lived. The visit undoubtedly enhanced the knowledge of the students. The most poignant moment was seeing the displays of the Mahatma’s personal belongings. His dhoti, bearing stains of his own blood, served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifice he had made for the nation. Additionally, bullet shots on display were a stark testament to the violence and turmoil of his era. A comprehensive collection of photographs documenting Gandhi’s life journey, from his childhood to his time in South Africa and his return to India during the tumultuous years of the freedom struggle, was also on display. Furthermore, the students were able to see the utensils he used, the books he perused, the slippers he wore and other essential items that formed an integral part of his daily life.

In conclusion, the visit to this museum left an indelible impression on the students. It was an educational and emotional journey into the life and legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, offering a deep understanding of his principles, struggles and the historical backdrop against which he made a lasting impact.
