Class 8 meets peers at a school in Japan in an online interaction
On 20th November 2024, an enriching online cultural exchange was held between the class 8 students of The Indian School and their peers at Torahime High School in Shiga, Japan who were accompanied by their English teacher. The smart young Indianities introduced themselves to the students from Japan and they were delighted to hear from them.
The 50-minute session offered an excellent opportunity for the students from both countries to share insights of their respective cultures. The Indian students showcased the diversity of India by discussing the distinct features of states like Rajasthan, Punjab, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Odisha. The presentation highlighted cultural practices, traditions, and local attractions, culminating in an informative talk on Yoga and its significance in Indian culture and global wellness.
The Japanese students reciprocated by sharing fascinating aspects of their culture. They spoke about the Hikanya Parade, celebrated on November 3, and introduced traditional foods like Tsurya Pan, a unique salad bread made with radish, mayonnaise, and cabbage, and soft, round bread. They also described the beauty of Lake Biwa, Japan's largest lake, with its mesmerising sunsets that change colour every moment. The students also delved into the history of Negihama, known for its contributions to gun-making and its rich heritage.
The exchange was a profound learning experience for the students of both countries. It provided local insights into each other's heritage, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity. The session concluded on a positive note, leaving students and teachers grateful for the opportunity and hopeful for more such exchanges in the future.
