Classes 4D and 5C meet Israeli peers in a Skype classroom

The students of classes IVD and VC of The Indian School interacted with Ms Karine Tsabari and her students at the Yeshurun School, Holon, South of Tel Aviv, Israel, in a virtual mode on 8 December, 2021

The Israeli students commenced the session with a presentation on the eight-day Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, also known as the festival of lights. The beautifully elucidated PPT showcased Hanukkah in all its glory. Jews worldwide celebrate Hanukkah by lighting the eight candles on a candelabrum with nine branches, commonly called a menorah or hanukiah. Eight of the Hanukkah menorah's candles are level with each other to symbolise the eight days that the oil lasted. The ninth candle is called the Shamash ("helper" or "servant")and is either elevated or shorter than the others. It kindles the other eight. Other Hanukkah festivities include singing, playing games, eating oil-based foods, sharing gifts, etc. Next, it was the turn of the Indianites to share information on the Indian festival of lights-Diwali. Samrithi Sharma of VC, in her presentation, described the significance of Diwali and its celebrations by lighting diyas, making colourful rangolis and mouthwatering sweets, etcetera. Gunseerat Kaur of IVD shared her Diwali experience. This year, most people did not burst firecrackers to prevent further harming the environment.
