Classes 6 and 7 interact with an ISRO expert
On 19 August 2025, the students of classes 6 and 7 were privileged to engage in an enlightening interaction with Dr Arun Bharadwaj, Scientist at ISRO, as a part of the Science Week celebrations. The session, titled “Brains, Rockets and Beyond: India’s Space Odyssey”, offered a fascinating glimpse into the transformative power of science and innovation.
Dr Bharadwaj began by illustrating how scientific advancements have revolutionised everyday life. He traced the remarkable journey of technology, from the era of room-sized mainframe computers to today’s sleek laptops and cloud computing, and from rudimentary radios and black and white televisions to the modern age of smartphones and smart devices. He emphasised how these developments have reshaped communication, entertainment, and connectivity in ways once unimaginable.
Delving into the realm of healthcare, Dr Bharadwaj highlighted achievements in medical science, including the discovery of vaccines, the invention of anaesthesia, advancements in medical imaging, the discovery of penicillin, organ transplantation, and the emergence of telemedicine. These innovations have not only enhanced the quality of life but have also significantly increased life expectancy and access to medical care across the globe.
The talk also celebrated the legacy of India’s scientific pioneers. Dr Bharadwaj introduced the students to the remarkable contributions of visionaries such as Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space programme; Dr M.S. Swaminathan, who spearheaded the Green Revolution; Dr Prafulla C. Ray, a trailblazer in modern chemistry; Dr P.C. Mahalanobis, the architect of India’s statistical revolution; and Dr Verghese Kurien, the driving force behind the White Revolution. Their stories served not only as a tribute to Indian scientific excellence but also as a powerful source of inspiration, encouraging students to dream big and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s scientific and technological future.
