Candle lights, earthen lamps, homes filled with the smell of delightful sweets, the warmth of family and friends and the chill of the upcoming winter, thats how wed like to paint a perfect picture of Diwali celebrations in India.
On this joyous occasion, the Pre-Primary classes of The Indian School celebrated Diwali online with their usual enthusiasm on 12 November 2020. Yet again, it was proven that the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown has created numerous novel opportunities for showcasing ones creativity virtually.
The programme started with the children, by turn, speaking a few lines about the festival, sharing information on when and why it is celebrated.
A short skit based on a conversation between a mother and her children, showcased goes how the harmful effects of fire crackers hurt our environment. The children demonstrated how to celebrate Diwali in an eco-friendly Diwali by lighting clay diyas, decorating the home and creating pretty rangolis.
Students were dressed up in ethnic attire and took a pledge to say NO to crackers and NO to electric lights. An endearing recitation of short verses on Diwali by the tiny tots left the audience in awe.
The children also sang for their peers-Aie Diwali deep jala lo, door karo andhiyara and Aiye Diwali re. A group of them presented a dance to the song, Mere, tumhare, sab ke liye.
Principal, Ms Tania Joshi who was a part of the celebrations, was appreciative of the effort put in by the little ones. Later, in class the festivity continued as the children y decorated diyas, created rangolis, torans, paper lanterns etc., guided by their teachers.
It was a fun-filled morning with learning achieved in a fun way...namely, 'edutainment'.
