Drama as an effective teaching tool

To enrich their understanding of children’s theatre and its educational value, a group of teachers attended the musical play, “Say Cheese, Grandpa!” on 16 October 2025 at the Kamani Auditorium. The play, produced by Saregama Live, beautifully combined storytelling, music, dance, and visual effects to engage young audiences while offering meaningful life lessons.

Centred around “Dhaani”, a young girl determined to bring back her grandfather’s smile with the help of her magical toy “Capo”, the story highlighted themes of love, empathy, family bonding, and the importance of human connection in an increasingly digital world. The vibrant performances, catchy songs, and interactive moments kept the audience engrossed through the 66-minute show. The creative set design and lively choreography added charm to the experience, making it enjoyable for both children and adults.

For the teachers, the play provided valuable insights into how performing arts can support emotional intelligence, creativity, and moral development in young learners. It also reinforced the role of storytelling as a powerful tool in early childhood education.

Overall, “Say Cheese, Grandpa!” proved to be a heart-warming and inspiring experience that blended entertainment with thoughtful learning, showing how theatre can meaningfully connect joy and education.
