Education in real life

Interaction with School chairman on Education in real life. Well known philosopher, J. Krishnamurti said: There is no end to education. It is not that you read a book, pass an examination, and finish with education. The whole of life, from the moment you are born to the moment you die, is a process of learning. On 6 April 2018 students of class VIII and IX, eyes alive with enthusiasm, engaged in a stimulating dialogue with Mr. Prafull Goradia on Education in real life. The lively session commenced on an edifying note with Mr. Goradia exhorting the students to learn from his personal experience. He spoke of Amethi (1981) and Maliabad (1984-85) where he met ordinary folks who had not been to school. However, they were still able to think quite clearly and offer valuable opinion! He surmised that education is not restricted to textbooks; education really means experience and its education; learning values and applying these in real life. Mr. Goradia divulged that in his childhood students were few and far between. Only a handful of children were able to go to school. The rest gained knowledge through experiential learning. [gallery link="file" order="DESC"] He spoke of his ingenious grandmother, who was able to tell if a bride to be was appropriate or not for the groom! Based entirely on her empirical experiences, of course! At the end of the talk Mr. Goradia invited questions from the young audience. He deftly fielded their volley of queries with much patience and candour. He made sure each student received an answer. School helps children to be socially active was his crisp rejoinder to Why should children go to school and not do homeschooling? When asked if he thought the teens of this era were prepared to face the real world, he candidly admitted that he was unable to comment with authority on the question, as he did not interact much with children in general. He does, however, hold discussions with his grandchildren on history or philosophy. He declared that teenagers today have more knowledge than adolescents of the past, and that he was extremely optimistic about them. The immensely enjoyable, interesting and interactive session concluded with Mr. Goradia promulgating that the key to success is quality education through experience. Not everything that is learned is contained in books. The students returned to their classrooms enlightened and clearer on the subject. Anshita Anand and Chhanak Dang, IX C.
