Environment Week in Pre- primary
It is our collective and individual responsibility to preserve and tend to the world in which we all live. - Dalai Lama
Every year, the Preprimary Department at The Indian School celebrates Environment Week in order to raise awareness about environmental issues and call for action. Through activities planned during this week, we try to capture the childrens attention from early on.
The week 11th to 15th July 2016 started with showing the children some interesting videos relating to how one must keep the environment clean, save water and electricity. They watched the videos in the smart board class. Later, they were explained why we need to keep two separate dustbins in the classroom for sensible waste disposal.

The next activity planned for our tiny tots was a nature walk. The children were taken to the front lawn to make them aware of the importance of clean air and a refreshing environment. They observed a large variety of flora and fauna and also learnt why they are important to us. An effort was also made to encourage them to use paper bags in place of plastic ones.
In a craft activity planned for the students, the little ones printed hand impressions on individual wall hangings. Each hand impression had a special meaning. As they pressed their right hands for the impressions, they promised to turn off the lights and fans when not in use and as they imprinted their left hands they promised to always throw garbage into a bin. On the last day, each one took his or her wall hanging home and promised to hang them up their rooms as a reminder of their duty towards the environment.
These fun-filled activities captured the attention of these little minds of the 21st century. While making them familiar with the abundant resources of Mother Earth, it also instilled in them the need to conserve and protect these for the future.
