Gandhi Jayanti is observed by the entire nation to commemorate the birth anniversary of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Our students too celebrated Bapus 150th birth anniversary virtually this year with zeal, enthusiasm and a patriotic feeling on 1 October 2020.
The programme commenced with Bapus favourite hymns, Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram and Vaishnav Jan To Tene Kahiye, soulful rendered by music teacher Mr Sanjeev Chaudhary. Kathan Sharma of PS Kokab dressed as Bapu spoke his memorable words of inspiration- Be the change that you wish to see in the world.
[gallery link="file" order="DESC"]A brief introduction of Gandhiji and his role in achieving freedom for India was given by Kovid Chellani of PS Kokab. This was followed by a recitation, Gandhi Ji ke Bandar teen by Atiksh Gupta of PS Delphini. Atiksh explained that the three wise monkeys referred to in the three rules, teach us 3 rules to follow. These rules are- See no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.
The Mahatma rightly said, Sanitation is more important than independence. In that spirit, as we know the Swachch Bharat Abhiyan launched by the Government of India aims to address the problems of sanitation and waste management. Considering the importance of hygiene, Aayansh Gupta of PS Capella pledged to keep his surroundings clean. He prompted his classmates to do the same with the slogan- God gave us green, let us keep it clean.
Whenever we think of Bapu, two words come to our mind - truth and non-violence. Bapu was a staunch believer of these ideals and preached that honesty was the virtue of being truthful to self and society. Gurkirat Kaur of PS Hercule entreated her friends to be honest and always speak the truth. Prananya Singh of PS Agena shared that hands are for doing wonderful things and not for hitting, thereby emphasising on Gandhijis belief in non-violence.
At our School, we attempt to encourage the shy children to participate in activities, with wonderful results.
The programme concluded with a timeless hymn, also loved by Bapu, Abide with me, sung by our singing teacher, Ms Bernadette Bedi.
Later in class, the teachers told the children, the importance of what Gandhiji taught and why it is still important today. The importance of hygiene and cleanliness of our city and neighborhoods was particularly reiterated.
Finally as a class activity, the children made Charkhas with ice cream sticks, guided along by their teachers.
