Inter school scientific skills event

St. Mary’s School, Safdarjung Enclave, hosted the much-anticipated competition, ‘Ignited Mind’ on January 31, 2024. This fun-filled event focused on nurturing scientific skills and temperament in young minds. Teams from various schools participated enthusiastically, engaging in three challenging rounds that tested their scientific knowledge, observation abilities, and problem-solving skills.

Round 1: Hare and Hounds

In the first round, named "Hare and Hounds," students embarked on a journey to solve tasks based on a list of clues provided. The atmosphere buzzed with excitement as teams navigated through the challenges, showcasing their analytical and problem-solving skills. The round not only tested their scientific knowledge but also encouraged teamwork and quick thinking.

Round 2: Dexter’s Lab

The second round, ‘Dexter’s Lab’, required participants to observe a set of experiments displayed. Drawing on their observations and inferences, students had to complete a worksheet related to the experiments. This round aimed to evaluate their practical understanding of scientific concepts and the ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Round 3: Be the Change Makers

The final round, ‘Be the Change Makers’, posed a unique challenge for the teams. Each team received a situation related to current global problems. Armed with laptops and internet access, the participating teams had 40 minutes to research their topic and propose practical solutions. The solutions were presented through a concise PowerPoint presentation consisting of 3-5 slides. This round aimed to foster creativity, research skills, and critical thinking ability about real-world issues.

Participants expressed enthusiasm and excitement throughout the competition. The diverse nature of the rounds allowed them to showcase various skills, from decoding clues to conducting experiments and proposing innovative solutions to societal problems. The interactive and dynamic format of the competition ensured active engagement and a positive learning experience for all.

The ‘Ignited Mind’ competition was a resounding success. It not only provided a platform for students to showcase their scientific skills but also promoted teamwork, critical thinking, and creativity. The three rounds, each with its unique challenges, tested participants on different aspects of scientific knowledge and application. The event successfully achieved its goal of inspiring and nurturing the scientific temperament of young minds, leaving participants with valuable experiences and memories to be the future scientists and change-makers.

Adharv Goel and Amaira Kapoor from Class V B actively took part in this enjoyable event and were awarded certificates of participation.
