Interaction on Environmental Awareness for classes 4 and 5
On August 5, 2024, the students of classes 4 and 5 witnessed a dynamic workshop conducted by Ms Meenu Wadhwa, an educationist with more than 27 years of experience at Kendriya Vidyalaya.
The workshop focused on environmental awareness through the exploration of the five elements of nature, namely, earth, water, fire, air, and space. The session, began at 10 AM and utilised engaging flashcards to visually introduce each element and its role in the environment. These flashcards, featuring vivid images and simple explanations, made complex concepts accessible and memorable for the 200 students in attendance.
The students of classea 4 and 5 were accompanied by their teachers. The visual approach was complemented by interactive discussions that encouraged students to explore the interactions between the elements and their significance in sustaining life.
The workshop's structure included a presentation followed by a participatory discussion. The students were guided to understand how these elements interact within ecosystems and how human activities impact them. The discussion allowed students to reflect on their daily habits and consider practical ways to reduce the ecological footprint.
The speaker explained the types of soil ideal for various plants, emphasising the importance of soil quality in promoting healthy growth. The students learned about different soil types, including loam, clay, and sandy soil and how each type influences plant health. The session included practical advice on setting up home planters, enabling students to apply their newfound knowledge by starting their own small-scale gardening projects
The students were highly exhilarated with the newfound awareness of environmental issues and a greater commitment to eco-friendly practices. The workshop successfully achieved its objectives by enhancing students' understanding of nature's elements and their correlation, while promoting active participation and critical thinking.
Ms Wadhwa’s engaging methods and dedication to environmental education made a significant impact, leaving students more informed and motivated to contribute to a sustainable future.
