Interaction with an Author, Literary Week, class 4.

The students of class 4 had an unexpected opportunity to come face-to-face at School with Dr. Devika Rangachari, celebrated author of stories for children on 23 April, 2012. She introduced herself by explaining what her profession is about. Who is an author, what does he or she exactly do etc. The children listened in rapt attention as she constructed her rapport with them and soon enough, when she asked, many expressed immediate eagerness to also follow suit when they grew up! The rapport up, the children could no longer conceal their curiosity. They asked several questions which Dr. Rangachari answered animatedly. She then narrated 2 stories written by her, The wit of Tenali Raman and Whitey and the monsters. The students listened carefully and promptly offered to guess the answers to questions that she asked of the stories! She ended with an informal interaction with the children and they responded freely. Several of them had seen and read Dr. Rangacharis stories and were excited to now see her in person. They persisted with her to tell them the names of all the tales she had written and what else she was thinking of writing next. She in turn plodded them on to continuously wonder. She said, nothing, then, would stop each one from becoming an ace storyteller. Their own imaginations would fly to discover and to delight and this would help them all their lives she patiently persisted. As reported by Ms. Neha Bisht, teacher.
