Joyous New Beginnings: Nursery Orientation ( Batch of 2025-26)
The Nursery Orientation at The Indian School, held on Saturday, 22 March 2025, was a celebration of new beginnings, a heart-warming welcome to the newest members of our School community. With a perfect blend of music, dance and an insightful talk, the day was designed to not only introduce parents to the School ethos but to ignite excitement for the memorable journey ahead.
Upon arrival, the parents were immediately drawn into the vibrant atmosphere of the School, set off by a captivating performance by the School band. The lively display of musical talent, with different instruments coming together in harmony, added an electrifying energy to the occasion. It wasn’t just music, it was a statement of the creativity and passion that runs through the School.
After the musical performance, parents gathered on the festive front lawn for a delightful tea, where the gentle breeze and picturesque surroundings created a perfect backdrop for relaxed conversations. The elegant setting, paired with delicious refreshments, encouraged lively exchanges and fostered a warm atmosphere of connection. As parents mingled, shared stories and built new friendships, the stage was set for a memorable evening of camaraderie.
In an engaging story board activity, parents were invited to write down the name of the last story they had read to their child. This simple yet powerful activity encouraged parents to share stories and thoughts, sparking valuable conversations about the importance of reading. It was a moment of shared wisdom, with each contribution reflecting the love and care that parents put into nurturing their child’s growth.
The highlight of the day was the diya-lighting ceremony, as parents entered the Foundation Hall. As the soulful voices of the student choir filled the air, the lighting of the diyas transcended a simple ritual—it became a profound symbol of trust and the shared commitment to nurturing young minds. As each parent lit a diya, it was symbolic of a lighting of a new path for their child’s future, marking the beginning of a fourteen-year journey of learning and growth.
The sight of hundreds of tiny flames flickering in unison, paired with an uplifting song, created an atmosphere that was both profound and elevating. The hall glowed with a sense of unity and purpose, as parents and educators came together to embark on this transformative journey.
We were honoured to welcome Ms Madhavi Goradia Divan, esteemed member of the School Governing Board and Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court. Her contribution to our Citizenship Programme, which aims to nurture responsible, compassionate citizens of the future, has been immeasurable. Ms Divan’s vision for the programme is intricately woven into the fabric of the School curriculum, shaping students who are not only academically successful but also empathetic and engaged with the world around them.
Principal, Ms Tania Joshi, took the stage to share the School’s core values. She elaborated on the School’s mission to provide holistic education, nurturing not just the intellect, but also emotional, social and ethical growth. Her speech was a reminder of why The Indian School is not just a place of learning but a vibrant community committed to developing well-rounded individuals.
A truly joyous moment unfolded when our young performers from the Pre primary took to the stage for an energetic and captivating dance performance. The children, brimming with enthusiasm, danced to the spirited song, “Aaj Main Upar, Aasman Neeche, Aaj Main Aage, Zamana Hai Peeche”. The audience erupted into applause as their infectious energy set the stage on fire.
As part of our commitment to providing parents with valuable insights into early childhood development, we were privileged to listen to Ms Shweta Dharamdasani, noted psychotherapist. With her extensive expertise in child psychology, Ms Dharamdasani provided practical strategies for parents to navigate the challenges of early childhood, ensuring the children’s transition into school is as smooth and enriching as possible. Her session was both thought-provoking and empowering, offering parents the tools to support their children’s emotional and developmental needs.
As a token of our appreciation, Ms Dharamdasani was presented with a Citizenship Hamper. The hamper included handcrafted wax candles made as part of the Shramdaan Project, and a potted plant from our School nursery, symbolising growth, care and our commitment to sustainability.
To further enrich the experience, Ms Vandana Tiwari, Head Teacher-Primary, offered a glimpse into the innovative pedagogies and activities that define the School’s approach to nurturing young minds. She highlighted the balanced approach to education, where academic learning is seamlessly integrated with creative and social development, ensuring that every child thrives in a supportive and stimulating environment.
The orientation concluded with the harmonious rendition of the School song by the student choir.
Before leaving, each parent received a special gift, a book titled, ‘All You Need is Love: The Art of Mindful Parenting’ by Shelja Sen. This thoughtful gift serves as a guide to mindful and compassionate parenting, supporting parents as they embark on the beautiful journey of raising their children with patience, understanding and love.
As we look ahead to a year filled with learning, growth and collaboration, we are excited to continue building lasting memories with our newest parents and students. The Nursery Orientation was a perfect reflection of the warmth, passion and dedication that define The Indian School community. We look forward to many fulfilling and memorable experiences ahead.
