Mathematica-2013, inter-school Math festival

On 25 October, 2013, Air Force Bal Bharti School , Lodhi Road organized an Inter-school Maths festival, Mathematica-2013. The 9 students selected to represent our School at the competition were accompanied there by Ms. Alka Kanwar.

16 schools of Delhi participated in this event, namely, D.P.S.( R.K. Puram), Delhi Police Public School , Birla Vidya Niketan, Amity Saket, Springdales Dhaula Kuan,, Ramjas School etc.

Ayush Mallik class XI and Nakul Chodha class XII were selected for the Mathematics Quiz. It comprised 2 rounds, the preliminary and a final round.

Swapnil Kanwar and Himanshi Saini, class IX and Shruti Bihani were selected for the model- making competition. They created a model on the verification of the Pythagoras Theorem. Their display included information on Pythagoras, his life, the theorem, and it's uses. They also created a booklet showing the verification of the theorem with 2D and 3D shapes. After readying the model, they had to defend it before the judges. The time allotted for making the model was two and half hours.The presentation was evaluated on originality, applicability ,presentation of the model, it'scost- effectiveness and conceptualisation.

Bhumika Narang and Yubin Oh of class VIII represented our School at Rangometry, the rangoli-making competition. Their topic was Mother Earth. They used a geodesic dome to show the Earth and surrounded it with yellow and orange flowers. It was an attractive rangoli which incorporated, the competitions tag line, Splashing colors into Mathematics.The rangoli was judged for creativity, the use of mathematics, cost- effectiveness and presentation. A floor space of 3 x 3 feet was provided to each team and the time allotted was an hour.

Chitvan Arora of class VI and Samarth Saxena of class VII were selected for the Fancy Dress Competition. Chitvan, dressed as a geometry box, explained it's utility to the audience. Samarth Saxena was dressed to be a Circle and the team was judged for diction (pronunciation and act ) , content ( originality ) and presentation ( props and costume).

Mathematica 2013 was an innovative event and the children 'edutained' entirely!
