Movie Making workshops by INTACH

The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) was founded in 1984 in New Delhi with the vision to spearhead heritage awareness and conservation in India. Today, INTACH is recognised as one of the world's largest heritage organisations across the country. Over the past 31 years, INTACH has pioneered the conservation and preservation of heritage.

INTACH operates through various divisions such as Architectural Heritage, Natural Heritage, Material Heritage, Intangible Cultural Heritage, Heritage Education and Communication Services (HECS), Crafts and Community Cell, Chapters, INTACH Heritage Academy, Heritage Tourism, Listing Cell, and Library, Archives, and Documentation Centre. It continues to make significant strides in heritage preservation.

The Filmit movie-making workshop, organised by INTACH, took place at the INTACH headquarters, on July 26, 2023, with participation from students in classes 6, 7, and 8, accompanied by their teachers. With the representation of 9-10 schools, the event aimed to introduce students to the art of filmmaking and promote creative expression.

The workshop commenced with an introduction to INTACH's background and a briefing on the workshop's rules and regulations. The students were then informed about the key elements of creating an impactful short film, including theme selection, subject identification, and crafting an engaging opening note.

A special highlight of the event was the presence of guest speaker, Mr Faisal Alkazi, who engaged in an interactive session with the audience. During his talk, he shared valuable insights on the filmmaking process, inspiring the students with his expertise and experience.

Themes relating to family traditions, water, wildlife, and heritage occupations were explored and showcased through previously made films by students during FILMIT's existence. This allowed the participants to gain a deeper understanding of storytelling through filmmaking.

Mr Alkazi guided the students on how to develop compelling themes and create impactful short films, fostering creativity and critical thinking.

On July 28, 2023, INTACH organised the Delhi FILMIT Technical Workshop, a follow-up event designed to provide further insights into filmmaking for students. This workshop featured Ipshita Mehra and Emilia Ghanbari Sissan from class VIII-A, and Aryan Sehgal from class VII-B. The grouo who was accompanied by their teacher, Ms Ekta Chitkara.

The programme began with an enlightening session on various movie-making themes, followed by Ms Himanshi Saini's guidance on different shooting techniques, camera angles, and their significance in conveying powerful narratives.

The students were also exposed to the impact and significance of films as a medium of expression. Through an illustrated presentation, they learned about the step-by-step process of editing a film, adding a practical dimension to their theoretical knowledge.

During the Q&A session, the students had the opportunity to clarify their doubts related to software usage, film duration, and other technical aspects of filmmaking, enriching their understanding further.

Both workshops organised by INTACH successfully instilled a sense of appreciation for filmmaking and heritage conservation among the students, encouraging them to pursue their creative interests and contribute to preserving India's rich cultural legacy.
