Niti Aayog hosts a DIY activity on Mega Tinkering Day 2025
Mega Tinkering Day, held on August 12, 2025, was a landmark nationwide initiative to celebrate and promote innovation among young learners. Organised by the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, in collaboration with the Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, the event brought together over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs) and non-ATL schools from across all 35 states and union territories.
More than 4 lakh students participated virtually in a live, one-hour 'Do-It-Yourself' (DIY) challenge, where they designed and built functional vacuum cleaners using simple, everyday materials such as plastic bottles, motors, propellers, and cardboard. The activity fostered grassroots innovation, hands'-on learning, and environmental consciousness by encouraging students to repurpose waste into useful devices.
From The Indian School, 42 students from Classes IX to XI took part. Guided live, students gained practical insights into motor functions, electrical circuits, and component assembly, ultimately creating working prototypes.
In his keynote address, Mr Deepak Bagla, Mission Director, AIM, highlighted that innovation is not confined to technology but is a mindset—one that transforms challenges and discarded materials into opportunities for value creation. His words inspired students to think critically, act creatively and work towards building a sustainable future.
Despite being conducted in an online format, Mega Tinkering Day 2025 united students across the nation in a shared celebration of creativity and innovation. The event not only enriched technical knowledge and problem-solving skills but also instilled the values of sustainability, collaboration, and inventive thinking. It stands as a milestone in nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.
