Parenting session in Pre primary

As parents, we all want our children to grow up to become good people and responsible citizens. Parents thus carry the formidable responsibility of bringing up their children in the best possible way.

But what is good parenting? Good parenting happens when parents creates a stable, nurturing home environment, are positive role models and play an active part in the childs life.

A Democratic and Positive parenting workshop for the Pre-School parents was held on 5th May at School. Ms. Sangeeta Aswani, Citizenship Programme coordinator was the speaker of the morning. She facilitates the participation of our students in creating awareness relating to the environment and as good future citizens.

Ms. Aswani began by sharing the common present day scenario in most households. She shared common errors and flaws that occur during early years of parenting. To counter this, she gave practical suggestions and tips.

90% of a childs permanent foundation of brain development occurs in the early years. An overuse of gadgets can only stunt this growth and cause a negative impact on the childs overall development. If the child is spending more time swiping and scrolling, instead of interacting with the real world, you need to act before its too late.

Good parenting is accepting responsibility for the total development of the child, providing moral support and spiritual scaffolding and guiding with open communication and mutual respect. Responsible parents instil good values, set limits, and influence a childs behaviour in a positive manner.

Finally the take-away from the workshop was:

The best thing you can give your children is your time. Be there for them. No matter how busy you and your children are, take time out to be together to communicate. Create greater understanding and togetherness.
